Most notably, the United States Code prohibits perjury, which is defined in two senses for federal purposes as someone who: Within federal jurisdiction, statements made in two broad categories of judicial proceedings may qualify as perjurious: A third type of perjury entails the procurement of perjurious statements from another person. It is important to note the distinction here, between giving a false statement under oath and merely misstating a fact accidentally, though this distinction can be especially difficult to discern in court of law. Dunnigan, a seminal case that set out the parameters of perjury within United States law. The court uses the Dunnigan-based legal standard to determine if an accused person, “[T]estifying under oath or affirmation violates this section if she gives false testimony concerning a material matter with the willful intent to provide false testimony, rather than as a result of confusion, mistake, or faulty memory. Deliberation on the part of the defendant is required for a statement to constitute perjury. The mere existence of two mutually exclusive factual statements is not sufficient to prove perjury; the prosecutor nonetheless has the duty to plead and prove statement was willfully made. Mere contradiction will not sustain the charge; there must be strong corroborative evidence of the contradiction. Though the defendant must knowingly render a false statement in a legal proceeding or under federal jurisdiction, the defendant need not know that they are speaking under such conditions for the statement to constitute perjury.

Controversy[ edit ] Anthropologist Helen Fisher in What happens in the dating world can reflect larger currents within popular culture. For example, when the book The Rules appeared, it touched off media controversy about how men and women should relate to each other, with different positions taken by New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd and British writer Kira Cochrane of The Guardian.
Sara McCorquodale suggests that women meeting strangers on dates meet initially in busy public places, share details of upcoming dates with friends or family so they know where they’ll be and who they’ll be with, avoid revealing one’s surname or address, and conducting searches on them on the Internet prior to the date.
Don’t leave drinks unattended; have an exit plan if things go badly; and ask a friend to call you on your cell phone an hour into the date to ask how it’s going. If you explain beautifully, a woman does not look to see whether you are handsome or not — but listens more, so you can win her heart.

So, when you are searching for those little white lies online, be sure to beware of older men lying about their age. Give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but truly trust no one until you get to know them well.
My circumstances were different though. I was very mature for my age, it was easy for anyone to believe I was older than I actually was. I was emancipated when I was 16 and therefore legally an adult. I raised myself from that point on and when asked while dating, I always lied about my age. It just made it easier for me in the end. I always dated older anyway and obviously being a legal adult, I had that choice. Was it right to lie about my age?
No and I’m not going to justify it but that was also back in the 80’s so times were also a lot different. I think the girls who lie about their ages these days have completely different motives and they are not good motives either. With all of these daytime talk shows with teenaged girls talking about wanting a baby at the ripe old age of 14 – 15,makes me sick to my stomach.
I think a lot of that falls on parents who in my opinion have become lazy and uninvolved in their kids lives. I have a friend who’s daughter is friends with a 16 year old who just became pregnant by her teenaged boyfriend. The Mom of this girl is having an affair openly in front of her kid and hubby and has nothing to do with her daughter and then wonders how her kid got knocked up.
By the way, I don’t condone these girls on MySpace, Face book or whatever it is or any venue like that for posting obscene pics, bio’s etc..

The question was whether or not a shidduch could be broken because the bride lied about her age. In the specific case at hand, she said at the time of engagement that she was 28, yet when it came time for the wedding three years later three years??!! The Chelkas Ya’akov answers that the only time one can break a shidduch because of age is if the woman is over forty because of childbearing concerns. Otherwise, a lie about one’s age is not grounds for breaking a shidduch.
With all due respect to the Chelkas Ya’akov, I find this answer a bit difficult. Rather than focusing on the fact that the number of years was inaccurate, how about focusing on the fact that if she’s willing to lie about this, it reveals a serious character flaw about the person. I know that I would not want to start a relationship with someone who lies about their age.
I can understand that the woman was scared — she was 36 and single and probably figured that if she didn’t find a husband soon, then she would never find one. I really do understand that. However, the fact that she was willing to fib about her age shows that she understood that the guy didn’t want an older wife — a fact that was borne out by the fact that he asked the question about breaking the shidduch when he did discover her true age.
Lying about age on a first date?
First off everything is online and so you have to deal with scams like fake profiles, people lying about age, getting a match but neither of you want to start the convo and so on. And I also had some scammers — my favorite one was the military one, where she was based in some military camp in NY so how did you show up on my radar when I had the radius to only 60 miles?? And I also got some flaky ones… You guys talk for a bit via text then eventually on the phone and than you make plans to meet and they just disappear!
Like seriously what is the point of spending all that time texting and talking and getting to know someone and then POOF!

He called me and we had a great conversation. I felt the “telephone sparks” which is a good thing. So anyways, using the information that I gathered during our phone call, I then went into full stalker mode and looked him up on every site I could think of just to do an informal background check for safety reasons in case we ever decide to meet in person. Anyways, I found out his last name, home address, place of work, personal website, public records, a couple of photos, etc.
During my research, I also found out that he’s about 6 or 7 years older than he claims to be on his dating profile. I didn’t ask his age when we spoke on the phone so he didn’t directly lie to me about it, but he has to realize that the age on his profile is way off. He’s claiming to be 3 years older than me when he’s really closer to 10 years older.
